South Beach Smoke has long been regarded as one of the best electronic cigarette brands on the market. Offering a variety of quality products at a very competitive price SBS has crawled its way to the top spots of many e-cigarette charts around the web, so we just had to have our own South Beach Smoke review, to see if it’s really all that.
Package Presentation
For our review we tested South Beach Smoke’s top package, the Deluxe Plus Starter Kit, which the company says includes everything an e-cigarette smoker could possibly need. Priced at $104.99, it consists of:
-
- 1 Standard Battery
- 1 Extra-Capacity Battery
- 1 Portable Wall Charger
- 1 Deluxe USB Charger
- 1 Universal Car Adapter for USB Charger
- 1 Universal Carrying Case
- 5 Large Nicotine Cartridges/Atomizers
- 1 $100 Gas Rebate Certificate
A portable charging unit (PCC) would have made a fine addition, but all in all, the Deluxe Plus Starter Kit is a pretty attractive offer. For people looking to test the South Beach Smoke electronic cigarette without spending too much, the company offers another 3 starter kits with prices starting at $29.99. That’s one of the cheapest starter kits on the market, so we’ll be sure to take that into consideration on the final score.
South Beach Smoke makes both 2-piece and 3-piece e-cigarettes, categorized as Deluxe and Premium. The Deluxe model comes with the company’s new SuperMAXTM Battery and disposable cartridges that include the atomizer, so you don’t have to worry about its maintenance. Although 3-piece e-cigarettes are still used by many popular brands, 2-piece devices seem to be the future, and to be honest, we here at Electronic Cigarette Reviews like them a lot better.
Battery Life
One of the most common problems South Beach Smoke e-cigarette users had was the low battery life , compared to what they would have liked. We didn’t have a chance to test the old KR808D-2 style batteries, but what’s important is the manufacturer heard their complaints and introduced the new and improved SuperMAXTM lithium-ion batteries, advertised as the “most advanced electronic smoking battery manufactured today”.
SuperMAXTM batteries are indeed among the most impressive we’ve ever tested, . The standard lithium-ion battery powers between 200-300 puffs, while the superior extra capacity battery lasts around 500 puffs. And if that wasn’t impressive enough, the new battery technology also comes with reduced charging times and removes the hassle of having to train your battery by fully charging it the first few times, for optimal performance. Now you just plug it in for as long as you like.
SBS offers the automatic and manual options for its batteries. Casual users will appreciate the quick response of the puff-activated automatic device, while smokers who want more vapor per puff will definitely opt for the manual solution, which delivers a cloud of vapor at the touch of a button. Both varieties come in black and white and feature a classy crystal tip which lights orange when activated.
Vapor Volume
An area where South Beach Smoke shines is vapor production. Thanks to its new SuperMAXTM batteries, their e-cigarettes now produce an impressive volume of harmless vapor that will have people wondering whether you’re really smoking an e-cigarette or a conventional tobacco cigarette. The 4.2 V voltage of its superior battery really does a great job of heating the cartomizer and releasing satisfying amounts of vapor with each puff.
However, we’ve only had the opportunity to test the 2-piece Deluxe version, so we can’t guarantee you’ll get the same results using the Premium e-cigarettes, which haven’t received the SuperMAXTM upgrade just yet.
Flavors
Although SBS offers a selection of five different e-liquid flavors, I think that’s hardly a varied enough offer, considering what other premium e-cigarette brands are tempting clients with. You can choose between tobacco, menthol, cherry, chocolate and vanilla, each available in 4 different nicotine levels. Each disposable cartomizer is estimated to last between 11/2 -2 packs of cigarettes, and although the company doesn’t recommend you reuse them, if you don’t care about warranty, you can always refill them with your favorite e-juice.
I’m more of a tobacco kind of guy, but although the flavor was certainly strong enough, I can’t say it was the best I’ve ever tested. It’s certainly a subjective matter, but it wouldn’t hurt if South Beach Smoke would maybe try to diversify its tobacco flavors to attract cigarette smokers used to certain brands, like other e-cigarette suppliers have done. The menthol and the rest of the flavors are also pretty strong and will prove satisfying, if you prefer them to tobacco.
Pros:
- low starter kit starting price
- SuperMAX batteries
- automatic and manual batteries
- lifetime warranty
- easy draw
Cons:
- outdated Premium e-cigarette model
- few available tobacco flavors
- average vapor volume
