As far as I now, Apollo isn’t one of the most popular electronic cigarette brands out there, and that’s a real shame, because as you’re about to discover reading our Apollo e-cigarette review, they make some surprisingly nice products.
I didn’t know very much about Apollo e-cigarettes until one day when I found myself reading this forum thread where lots of people were praising both their Standard Starter Kit and the Apollo Extreme. So I just got on the phone and called Apollo for one of their seemingly stellar packages. I decided to go with the standard kit, as the Extreme is aimed at people who have some experience with e-cigarettes and mods, and are willing to sacrifice looks for extra vapor and strong hit.
Since the main goal of Electronic Cigarette Reviews is to introduce people to the world of vaping, I thought the standard kit was the best chioce.
This is one of Apollo’s strong points. The Standard Starter Kit comes in a very attractive black box branded with the company logo. If I were in a store and had to choose by looks alone, I’d pick this piece of eye-candy off the shelf before any other starter kit of all the suppliers I’ve ever reviewed. Sure, looks will only get you so far, but first impressions are always important, and this gorgeous Apollo standard kit just blew me away.
Inside the package you’ll discover everything you need to get started on your journey of vaping, nicely packed and ready to be discovered. The Apollo Standard Starter Kit consists of:
- 2 Lithium-ion batteries
- 1 USB charger
- 1 wall charger
- 5 cartomizers with the flavors of your choice
- 1 Portable Charger Pack (PCC)
Just the fact that they included a PCC in their standard starter kit really won them points in my book, because as far as I’m concerned this is one of the most important accessories for an e-cigarette user. It allows you to charge up the batteries on the go, so you can keep vaping even when there are no USB ports or power outlets available. Sure, they could have also included a car charger, but for $69.95, I was more than happy with what I got.
The electronic cigarettes are a bit longer than the 100s tobacco cigarettes, very light, elegant and have a high-quality feel. This might not mean a lot now, but if you intend to use these things in public, you want them to be as natural-looking as possible, trust me. The cool portable charger pack also looks very slick, and accommodates up to five cartomizers and two standard batteries. It has an LED display on the front, which lets you know just how much charging juice it’s got left.
But the biggest surprise of all was the nice gift I received with my purchase of the Apollo Standard Starter Kit – a disposable electronic cigarette that delivers up to 500 puffs. I know what you’re thinking: “it’s disposable, it’s free, it must be a piece of junk”, right? Wrong! This baby is as good as the rechargeable Apollo e-cigarette, except that it can only be used until it the cartomizer or battery runs out. Still, 500 free puffs make a pretty nice freebie.
I was impressed to find that the two Apollo batteries in the Standard Starter Kit were pre-charged, so I could start vaping as soon as I assembled the e-cigarette, but I didn’t expect them to last very long. Don’t get me wrong, it made quite a first impression, but I wasn’t familiar with the brand, so I didn’t get my hopes up. Surprisingly, they lasted roughly three and a half hours of heavy smoking, each, which is not too shabby.
From my experience with the Apollo e-cigarette, I can tell you their standard lithium-ion batteries last about as long as it takes you to go through a full cartomizer (200 puffs), and fully charges in around an hour and a half.
Another strong point of the Apollo e-cigs is the crazy amount of vapor they produce. Whether you’re using the 2-piece device or the disposable one, you only need to draw for a few seconds to be rewarded with an awesome white cloud that will fill your lungs with goodness and give you a really nice throat hit. And the best thing is they produce this kind of satisfying volume consistently throughout an entire cartomizer, which can’t be said about every premium e-cigarette on the market.
Apollo offers a nice range of e-liquid flavors, including a few varieties of tobacco, chocolate, coffee, a bunch of fruits, vanilla, and more. But there’s a catch: they don’t all come in pre-filled cartomizers. The company sells packs of empty cartomizers that can be filled with e-liquid available in 10 ml bottles, using a syringe. It’s not the most difficult thing to do, but some people just like the comfort of a pre-filled cartomizer. Just unscrew the old one, screw on a full one and keep vaping.
For them, Apollo introduced a line of pre-filled cartomizers, with five different flavors: tobacco, menthol, cherry, vanilla and coffee. It could be more diversified, but for an old fashioned guy like me, who just wants an alternative to analog cigarettes, it’s more than enough. All the flavors I tested provided strong flavors consistently, until they were depleted, but their taste…Well every person has their own opinion in this department, you either like them or you don’t. I personally found the tobacco pretty similar to the real thing, but there are countless alternatives out there.
Price vs. Value
I have to say I was very impressed with the Apollo standard e-cigarette. It looks almost like a real cig, performs beautifully and comes in the most beautiful package I’ve seen since I started reviewing electronic cigarettes. It comes with a cool portable charging pack (PCC), produces impressive volumes of vapor and has a very competitive price. The high-performance disposable electronic cigarette is just the icing on a very delicious cake. Bottom line, you’ll have a hard time finding a better deal.
